Louisiana Literature Festival 2014

I just returned from the Louisiana Literature Festival which is being held every year in August.  I heard a very strong and heart warming interview and reading by Norwegian author Herbjørg Wassmo (she said "thank God for birth control and student loans") as she is a strong advocate for women being independent both emotionally and financially (by emotionally she means that women shouldn't' be submissive.)

Afterwards I heard a reading by Danish author Josephine Klougart but I simply had to leave after 5 minutes. I find monotone reading really boring and the story didn't catch me at all and I honestly feel she is trying too hard to sound deep. I ended the day hearing a interview with Michael Ondjaatje who, as we all know, wrote The English Patient

At the same time Danish artist (born to Islandic parents) Olafur Eliasson is exhibiting Riverbed. I am very excited about this and caught a glimpse of it as seen on the picture below (not of the actual exhibit but of his models) - wow! I can't wait but is saving that adventure and the beautiful flower paintings by Emil Nolde to a day when it's less crowded.

Camille Henrot: The Pale Fox

A last minute tip from my art knowledgable neighbour prompted me to visit "Charlottenborg Exhibit Hall" to see this extraordinary and very blue exhibit by French artist Camille Henrot. I am, as I've written before, no art expert but I love immersing myself in worlds removed from my world or the world as we see it. This exhibit springs from Henrot's interest in how collections are created and how knowledge is arranged and systematized.

Camille Henrot works with drawing, sculpture, photography and film and these elements are all present in the two related works: The Pale Fox (2014) and the 12 minute film Grosse Fatigue (2013) for which she was awarded the prestigious Silver Lion at the Venice Biennial the same year. Both projects were featured alongside each other and for a while I found myself completely lost in another universe not sensing time or place. Wow!!!

Different Shades of Green...

A visual trip through different green objects I've laid eyes on the past months. Green is one of my favourite colours and on an unconscious level I am automatically drawn to it.

The Coffee Bar on Amager

"Kaffebaren" simply means "Coffee bar" in Danish and I am lucky to be surrounded by some of the most charming ones - at least that's how I feel. As a lover of great coffee a great setting don't do it alone for me and Kaffebaren on Amager certainly has both - great great coffee and a wonderful atmosphere. Yesterday I ended up sitting there for a few hours oblivious to time. Out the corner of my eye I noticed a steady flow of visitors - I could tell many of them were locals. So it's just as simple as the name of the place - good coffee, nice atmosphere and cool visitors.

A Play of Shadow and Light

The beautiful weather continues so every morning there is a play of shadow and light on my dining room table and coffee table. I tried to capture it this week and found it interesting that you don't have to do much. Just place whatever you have and the combination of light and shadow produces the result.

Bye Bye July

With the weather we've had in July there is no better place to be spending your summer than in Denmark. Temperatures in the 30ties C made it perfect for the beach and parks (when you needed shade badly) and although I did long for wind and lower temperatures I feel so lucky to actually have had a decent summer. After all, Danes are no strangers to rain, clouds and 17C and that's not really summer to me.

I've managed to enjoy myself tremendously with trips to the beach, a biketrip on the Swedish island of Hven, a beautiful walk on the cliff of Stevns, indulging in ice cream, frolicking around with family and friends, reading books and just catching my breath a little. August is suppose to be just as nice weather wise - we'll see.

Bye bye July!
