Mornings - the Epitome of Christianshavn

Yesterday on my way to work I had to record the quiet morning atmosphere which, to me, has become the epitome of Christianshavn

All I really needed was a cup of coffee and time to sit down and see the place come to life just like you do on vacation. You feel eager to hit the streets early and witness the hustle and bustle unique for the area - while feeling secretly happy that you, for once, don't have to be anywhere in particular. The feeling of just being is the best feeling. Hopefully there will be time for that soon.

All that is Orange!

I've got a weakness for the colour orange (did you notice my blog header?) and I only needed a quick glance around my apartment to gather a handful of things. Here goes:

Left to right:
Plate from Louisiana Art Museum, bouquet of tulips, Marimekko fabric
Kate Spade card holder, Mansur Gavriel tote, Stelton coffee pot
Lace halter top from Free People, rug from Finland, ballerina shoes from Bangkok.

Chanel Les Beiges no. 30

I've long been a fan of bronzer and for someone who likes simplicity and also have simple make-up routines adding some bronzer after applying my moisturizer has always done the trick. I've tried different bronzers over the years but Chanel has become my favourite. Yesterday, I went to stock up on this important piece and was surprised to find that my Soleil Tan de Chanel no. 62 Terre Epice has been discontinued. I needed to lie down quickly and Chanel isn't the worst place to do that.

Anyway, the very chic sales lady showed me Chanel's new line of powders Les Beiges which actually were a Fall 2013 release but since it's no secret I'm often the last to the party I, of course, had no idea that this swap had taken place.

Alas, out with the old...
The packaging (if you enjoy visual things like me) deserves a little more attention. It's still the classic compact shape but instead of black and white, it's now an elegant off-white with an almost lacquered shine. It looks extremely elegant. The inside contains a brush separated from the powder by a thin but sturdy piece of plastic. I like this set-up, as it does keep the mirror, brush and make-up clean.

Chanel Les Beiges Powder is designed to give your complexion a sheer, healthy glow, without looking too bronzy or unnatural and it's now part of Chanel's permanent collection. It comes in 7 luminous shades and the sales lady picked the no. 30 for my skin tone. I will most likely add no. 40 in the summer when I get tanned as I do that quite easily.

According to an article in Eurowoman from April 2013 Chanel's head of make-up Peter Philips wanted to create an easy go-to-powder: "I travel extensively, listen and talk to many women and sensed that there is a huge demand for quick fix products. Women want to look their best in no time and it has to be easy. A lot of women like the way they look when they return from vacation tanned and only need a dash of bronzer. My aim was to create a powder which gives the same glow as a bronzer but without the tan. You can use this one year round."*

*(Quoted from the interview by Sara Rostrup, Eurowoman, April 2013.)

Yes, it still comes with the trademark black velvet pouch
...and in with the new!

Christianshavn's Little Flower Shop

This little flower shop called "Pigen og Blomsten" - "The Girl and the Flower" recently opened on Christianshavn. I pass it every morning on my way to work and it's super cute and so is the flower girl who owns it.

Christianshavn from Above

I really think the focal point of Christianshavn is the corkscrewspire which grazes the Church of Our Saviour. The golden external winding staircase can be climbed to the top and the church is also noted for its carillon (the largest in northern Europe) which plays melodies every hour from 8 am to midnight. I know this first hand because not only can I see the tower from my kitchen window, I also have the pleasure of hearing it's melodies (sometimes it's more of a clanging sound and I wonder jeezwhat melody are they playing now??

Anyway, there is honestly nothing more atmospheric than the sound of bells (all I need are snow clad mountains and the Von Trapp Family!!) on Sunday mornings while heating rolls in the oven and making my pour over coffee.

May I present some pics from above the tower - and yes, I climbed all the way! Please excuse the fog, I'll make the climb again soon now that Spring is showing it's pretty face.

Oh yes, you're not allowed to take pictures inside Christiania, the Free Town, but you can see it from the top here!
