Parterre on Christianshavn

Parterre opened on May 29th and it's time to rave about this über cool and classy café which is located just down my street. The location is wonderful - on a corner just by the canal and there is seating outside. And the inside... what can I say? The decor is just lovely - colours of blue, white and mint green, so many charming objects, flowers in small ceramic vases... The style resembles a French country house and you feel at home right away.

But most importantly, the coffee is superb and the food and pastries delicious. Make sure to stop by if you're visiting Christianshavn - and hey - how about that air balloon!!!!

Summer Rain

Yesterday Copenhagen experienced summer rain like I haven't seen in a very long time. I had my windows open (immensely enjoying the sound reminding me of the tramps of tiny hoofs) while doing what I always do: drink coffee and read books work very hard - but suddenly realized that my floor had gotten completely soaking wet. This was not a drizzle and traffic chaos also occurred later.

Anyhow, I love summer rain and since poets describe moods so well I'll let Henry Wadsworth Longfellow close with a perfect description of yesterday's atmosphere:

Rain in Summer

How beautiful is the rain!
After the dust and heat,
In the broad and fiery street,
In the narrow lane,
How beautiful is the rain!

How it clatters along the roofs,
Like the tramp of hoofs
How it gushes and struggles out
From the throat of the overflowing sprout!

Across the window-pane
It pours and pours;
And swift and wide,
With a muddy tide,
Like a river down the gutter roars
The rain, the welcome rain!

Boutique Taeko

I've been eyeing these bowls from Boutique Taeko, a small Japanese shop located in inner city Copenhagen, for a long time now. Yesterday I finally went to pick them up and lost my heart to shelves filled with charming japanese pottery in all shapes and sizes. I'll be back for sure. I also dream of going to Japan one day but this is a fine place to start.

Oh, while waiting in line I spotted a basket of small handmade spoons and picked up this one. I love fireflies and notice how the little one on the handle is painted silver? :-)

Going to the Beach!

I have to admit that it's nice to escape the city once in a while. My family is from the southern part of Zealand (Sydsjælland) and this is also where I have spent all my childhood summers. I love going back and refuel in surroundings where the smell, colours and nature brings me comfort. I feel so lucky to have that area to (sort of) call my own.

Jackie and John Jr.

I have to post this picture of Jackie Kennedy sitting with John Jr. because how often do you see such a stylish mom? I love the colours of her outfit. I am actually in the midst of reading up on Jackie Kennedy and the White Hours Years - I have 7 books on the way from Amazon besides the ones I already have. The bio by her bodyguard Clint Hill inspired me to resume my studies of an era long gone and this remarkable woman. I might do a post on it :-)

The Green Door

I wouldn't mind entering this door every day - although I am pretty happy with my own green door in my own street. Sadly I don't have any beautiful roses to adorn it like they do here :-)

Coffee Break by the Canal

It's been a while since my last post but I am back again and want to share the perfect spot for a cup of coffee - on a boat in the canal.
