Birch Trees and Snap Hooks
Today I had the immense pleasure of spending my day at Camp Adventure in Haslev, a piece of land under Gisselfeldt Castle. Here I climbed the birch trees and swung in the rope ways - it was so coool!!! :-) Being 20 meters up is quite scary but once you get the hang of the ropes, the wires, the snap hooks and your own mental state it's out of this world awesome.
These pictures show you how idyllic Denmark is in the Spring when the birch trees starts unfolding their light green leaves. These are the charming surroundings where I enjoyed my lunch before hitting the woods right behind the old farm house.
I am sore and tired but oh so happy right now :-) It's good to challenge yourself once in a while.

A Weekend by the Water
Spring is a magical time and for the last couple of years I've come to enjoy that season as much as fall. Since we have a lot of holidays in Denmark in april and may everyone takes the opportunity to travel or simply elope the cities on weekends. For my part, I can't think of a lovelier place to be than in Denmark (when the weather is good, that is) This weekend I took advantage of it and spent a few days by the water which has become a tradition of mine. Reading, chatting away, biking, eating soft-ice and getting a nice tan is a great way of getting ready for summer - although I always think time is going by too fast.
Today, while writing this, it's cold (13C), rainy and windy. Danish spring- and summer weather is so fickle but it makes you enjoy weekends and moments like these so much more.

Edvard Weie & The Poetry of Nature
Landscape with Palm Trees, Cannes, ca. 1939 |
In March 1915 the Gl. Strand Art Association hosted Weie's first solo exhibition. Today, a 100 years later, Gl. Strand highlights this by showcasing a wide variety of his paintings all privately owned. As you will see on the pictures there are no tags telling the viewer what you see. Instead, beautiful classical music filled each room adhering to the theme of the paintings which I found very powerful. Along with your admission ticket you were given a little book to keep with information and pictures.
I also liked how the walls were either painted purple, white or grey and that in some rooms there were only three paintings. It made it very intimate and when I left (I took several rounds like I usually do) I felt I had witnessed something very special, something very delicate and intangible. The moment you walked out the door you felt you were saying goodbye to something which, in a short amount of time, had become very dear to you.

Today is a Danish holiday so no work and I took the chance and visited Louisiana Art Museum to see the Peter Doig paintings and Jeff Wall photographs (I highly recommend both artists)
On my way back to the train nature in all its glory and bloom caught my eye. I think it's safe to say spring has arrived. I've made it a tradition not to wear socks from May till October and besides loving walking bare foot this finally gives me a chance to start wearing my Josefinas ballet flats and L.K.Bennett sandals au naturel...
